Ask Apple Matters: Google Video - Playing Issues
Frustrating times are when you desperately want to watch some content on the internet but just can’t, especially when there is eye-candy like Google Video and YouTube floating about. I’m sure many new Mac users are still wanting to know how to play Microsoft’s .WMV format on their machines, well the answer lies here, but what about other video types such as Google Video? Doesn’t quite use Windows Media Video technology so what’s a guy to do? Enrico, who’s been featured before on Ask Apple Matters, is struggling to get videos playing in Google Video. His system specs don’t necessarily prevent him from playing videos, so where’s the problem?
Thankfully Haye321 has given his opinion followed swiftly by an answer from forum veteran Frozencold. Check below to see how they got on.
Question Of The Week
Question by: Enrico
My iMac does not play any videos in Google Video, Autoweek, etc.
I’m running Mac OS X, 10.1.5, 256MB RAM. Power PC G3.
Maybe it’s too old?.
Any suggestions?
Thx.
Enrico

I’m not sure how to solve your problem but I’m sure that it is not your tech because it is not that old. I know colleges who still have iMac G3s on campus for the students to use so they must still be pretty up to date.

Hello Enrico,
Problems are my thing, so maybe I can help. Well, first Google uses flash so you will need to update flash player, as for AutoWeek it uses rotting old WMV, which is a Microsoft format. In order to play the Microsoft junk we need a QuickTime plugin, such as Flip4Mac, which you can get here: http://www.flip4mac.com/wmv.htm
I hope that helps Enrico.
